The overall educational goal of the Suturing Module is to develop or enhance skills in laparoscopic suturing. The videos displayed here provide some tips on basic skills. There is some overlap with the FLS suturing component, but most of these skills go beyond what FLS demands.
This is a video by Dr Woo that describes the basics of laparoscopic suturing. It covers needle basics including design as well as needle management and the basics of knot tying. Duration 7 minutes.
This video by Dr Munro (it is a bit crude he says) nevertheless provides another view of laparoscopic needle drivers, knot manipulators, suture and needle design and management. There is an animation of insertion of curved needles through small laparoscopic incisions. This is done by removing the port, backloading the suture into and through the port's lumen, and then using the loaded needle driver (grasping the suture about 2-3 cm from the swedge point) as an obturator dragging the needle behind. About 12 minutes.
